SHENANDOAH – There will be no Coal Cracker 10k race this year, the organizing committee announced today.

The 10k and kids fun run was originally set for June 12, and will be postponed until June 11, 2022.

The committee cited the postponement as being in the best interest of the community.

“We value the health and safety of our runners, volunteers and community supporters above all else,” the committee wrote in a Facebook post. “We recognize that our race would not be possible without the help and support of our small businesses.”

“We do not feel that it is ethically or morally right to ask them for monetary sponsorships due to the toll COVID-19 has taken on businesses and communities,” they added. “These businesses need our support during this difficult time. Please consider spending your registration dollars and time at local businesses so that they and we can come back strong and ready to rally next year.”

The committee said that any runners already registered will have the choice of a refund or an entry deferment to next year.
