Blaze damages Quandel Concrete in Minersville

MINERSVILLE – Firefighters from across Schuylkill County were called to a blaze at one of the Minersville area’s landmark businesses Tuesday evening.

Fire broke out at the James W. Quandel and Sons concrete plant about 100 yards across the borough line in Cass Township at Schaeffer Hill and Field roads around 5pm.

A second alarm was quickly struck as flames engulfed a portion of the structure.

Multiple ladder trucks were used to battle the blaze as a collapse zone was established around the facility’s concrete bins.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Minersville, Pottsville, Cass Township, Schuylkill Haven, Saint Clair, Frackville, among others, responded to the scene.

Crews remained on scene well into the evening.
