Ashland woman’s musical legacy lives on through donation to N. Schuylkill music department

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – For 74 years, Miriam Maurer’s musical skills were a mainstay at Zion’s Reformed UCC in Ashland. She passed away last month at the age of 95, but her musical legacy hasn’t ended.

The North Schuylkill School Board accepted a $3,670 donation from her family at Wednesday night’s board meeting.

The donation, the board’s agenda says, is to assist students in the purchase of instruments or lessons.

They said the donation is to honor Maurer’s memory, as she committed her life to music.

According to her obituary, she was the organist and choir director at Zion’s church for over 74 years and was also a member of the Ashland Area Community Choir.

She graduated from one of North Schuylkill’s predecessor schools, Ashland High.
