Shen. Valley, Mahanoy, N. Schuylkill students in manufacturing video contest

SHENANDOAH – Some junior high schoolers were asked one simple question for an annual video contest, “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?”

The annual contest, hosted by the Manufacturers Resource Center, Allentown, allows students the opportunity to see and tour the operations of a local manufacturer.

The students then produce a video on what they learned.

In the Berks-Schuylkill contest, all three of our local schools participated this year, as they have the last several years.

Shenandoah Valley students focused on Cardinal Systems near Schuylkill Haven, Mahanoy Area checked out the local Blaschak Coal Co., and North Schuylkill visited Ashland Technologies near Hegins.

Voting opened at midnight Wednesday and will remain open through Friday night.

Check out our local students’ videos, and all the others from across Schuylkill and Berks County, and cast your vote here.

The highest vote-getter will receive the viewer’s choice award, while a panel of judges will bestow a variety of awards for factors such as content and editing.

According to the contest’s website, teams of students and teacher coaches receive camera equipment, software, and professional guidance as they learn to script, record, and edit their video stories. The contest’s objective, they say, is to change students’ perceptions about manufacturing careers.
