Lansford man injured in Vulcan crash

VULCAN – A Carbon County man was taken to a Coaldale hospital Thursday evening after a two vehicle crash near this Mahanoy Township village.

State Police at Frackville said the crash happened around 4:30pm at the intersection of Morea Road and the I-81 ramp.

Troopers said Sean M. Smyth, 48, of Lansford, was headed west on Morea Road in a 2004 Jeep Cherokee when he turned left to enter I-81.

Jared Smith, 28, of Hamburg, was headed east on Morea Road in a 2015 Fod F350 at the time, and struck Smyth broadside.

The Jeep suffered significant damage to its passenger side doors, while the Ford was able to be driven from the scene.

Smyth, Smith, and Dean Bucks, 57, of Fogelsville, a passenger in the Ford, were wearing seatbelts.

Smyth was taken to St. Luke’s Coaldale for a minor head injury by Mahanoy City Ambulance.

The Jeep was towed from the scene by Hoffman’s Towing.

Responding to the scene along with State Police was the Mahanoy City West End Fire Company.
