HS FOOTBALL: Mahanoy comeback falls short against Eagles, 54-26

ORWIGSBURG – Late in the third, the Bears trailed Blue Mountain by only eight points, and were eager to close the gap.

The Eagles, however, were set to take flight, soaring far and away from the Bears.

Blue Mountain steadily outscored the Golden Bears in the first half, taking a 28-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third, a pair of Ben Terry runs, answered only by a Nick Johnson run by Blue Mountain, brought Mahanoy within striking distance, at 34-28

Three more scores — a pair of runs and a pass — would occur in the fourth, all by Blue Mountain.

In the end, the Eagles were victorious 54-26, scoring their fourth win of the season.

Mahanoy Area, now 3-4, returns home next week for the regular season finale, the Route 54 Rivalry for the Damato/Szematowicz Trophy, against the Devils of Shenandoah Valley.
