MAHANOY CITY – No one was injured when an SUV spun and struck a tree on the Pottsy Hill south of Mahanoy City in Mahanoy Township Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:30pm on Mahanoy City Road, commonly known as the Pottsy.

State Police at Frackville said 19-year-old Xavier Devere-Malave, 19, of Gilberton, was headed down the hill in a 2004 GMC Envoy.

Negotiating a left-hand corner, the Envoy drifted onto the shoulder. Troopers said Devere-Malave then swerved left to get back onto the road, overcorrecting and spinning the SUV.

The vehicle slid into the woodlands, striking and snapping a tree.

Devere-Malave, and two passengers — a 53-year-old woman from Lehigh County and an infant from Gilberton — were securely seatbelted and uninjured.

The GMC was towed from the scene.

Responding to the scene along with State Police were firefighters from Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Co., Mahanoy City EMS, and Mahanoy City Police.
