Officials: Lock your cars, remove valuables after string of thefts
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - West Mahanoy Township Police Chief Matthew Williams speaks during the Board of Supervisors meeting on August 19, 2025.
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Lock your cars, local officials are warning after a string of thefts in the Shenandoah area.
At Tuesday’s West Mahanoy Township Supervisors meeting, Police Chief Matthew Williams said his department made an arrest in such a case a few weeks ago.
“We did have some more issues with people going into unlocked vehicles,” Williams said. “A juvenile male was taken into custody in the act of going into a vehicle on Swatara Road.”
Williams also noted that the township has a curfew — 10pm for Sunday through Thursday and 11pm for Friday and Saturday — and the juvenile’s parents will be cited.
At Shenandoah’s Borough Council Workshop last week, Mayor Andrew Szczyglak said three cars were broken into on Jardin Street last Sunday.
He said borough police are conducting increased patrols.
The Mayor reminds folks to lock their cars and remove valuables.
