Township advertising updates to noise ordinance
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - West Mahanoy Township Secretary/Treasurer Michael "Mick" Michalik, left, is recognized for three decades of service by Schuylkill County Commissioner Gary Hess, right during the West Mahanoy Township Supervisors meeting on July 15, 2025.
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township’s longtime secretary/treasurer was recognized at Tuesday’s township supervisors meeting.
Michael “Mick” Michalik has been with the township for 32 years.
Schuylkill County Commissioner Gary Hess was on hand for Tuesday’s meeting and provided a proclamation on behalf of the county commissioners.
“We appreciate all of Mick’s hard work and dedication to West Mahanoy Township,” Hess said.
Supervisors Chairman Paul “Pepper” Martin also provided recognitions from the township, Rep. Tim Twardzik’s office and Senator Dave Argall’s office.
“Your hard work and commitment is truly appreciated,” Martin said to Michalik. “And, no, you still have to come to work.”
In other business, township supervisors voted to advertise updates to the noise ordinance.
Among the updates, Solicitor Jim Amato said in response to a question from a resident, is the removal of specific timeframes.
The ordinance now prohibits music to be played loud enough “that it would be found by a reasonable person of ordinary sensibilities to interfere with the peace, comfort, or normal activities of individuals in any residents, business, or public area on adjacent or nearby properties, regardless of time of day.”
It also bans the same from vehicles or a portable source.
The ordinance has to be formally adopted at the August meeting.
In other business, township supervisors approved:
- the closure of Lotus Alley for the St. Joseph the Worker Parish block party;
- the retention of the services of S3 Consulting as a code enforcement consultant at a cost of $50/hr, or $250 per court appearance;
- the appointment of the township code enforcement officers as zoning officers.
- the hiring of Brandon Gonzalez as a full-time police patrolman at a rate of $26.23 per hour.
