Fiery crash kills four on Route 924

HUMBOLDT – Four people are dead after a fiery crash near the Humboldt Industrial Park north of Sheppton early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 3:30am in the area of Route 924 and Oakridge Road, just under a mile north of the Eagle Rock entrance.

Hazle Township firefighters said they received numerous reports of a vehicle rolled over, aflame, with entrapment.

Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire, finding four people dead in the vehicle.

According to State Police at Hazleton, the vehicle was headed northbound on Route 924 when it crossed into the oncoming lane, spun, and struck several trees before coming to a rest on its side.

The vehicle caught fire and five occupants were trapped inside.

Passersby were able to help free a 21-year-old man from the car while the four others were unable to be freed.

Those four have not yet been identified due to the extent of their injuries, troopers said, and are pending identification by the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office.

The 21-year-old man was taken to a Lehigh County hospital for treatment of injuries.
