Shenandoah Valley crowns homecoming queen

SHENANDOAH – As she paraded through downtown Shenandoah with the rest of the homecoming court, she rode aboard a truck decorated with a crown.

Under the lights at Veterans Memorial Stadium, she received her own crown.

Melanie Zamudio was named this year’s homecoming queen at Shenandoah Valley High School.

She was crowned by last year’s homecoming queen, Ashley Garcia.

As always, homecoming night festivities began with a parade from downtown Shenandoah to the football stadium on the west end.

This year’s parade, however, did not include the usual tradition of class floats.

Youth football and cheerleading organizations, along with the high school band and local fire apparatus, also joined the parade.

The homecoming court this year included Shandianys Sanabria-Tapia escorted by Stephanie Coyle, Hannah DeAngelo escorted by Madison Wasser, Melanie Zamudio Gutierrez escorted by Ayden Zamudio, Olivia Wierzalis Shala escorted by Jacob Coolbaugh, Jubylie Cruz escorted by Xavier Chatman, Emily Petritsch escorted by Jesus Paniagua, Emma Aftuk escorted by Jake Matta, Ava Menjivar escorted by Gunner Taylor, Sitlali Medina-Chagolla escorted by Victor Velazquez, Kali O’Boyle escorted by Julianna Svrcek and Pamela Lugo Guzman escorted by John Silvestre Moronta.
