YOUTH FOOTBALL: B-Team Diamonds outlast Hurricanes, win fourth league title

HAZLETON – The Ashland Black Diamonds came home from the power city with their first Tri-County Youth Football B-Team title since 2015 and completed an undefeated campaign.

The last time they won the title, the B-Team division was known as the minis.

Ashland, the west division champions, entered Sunday’s title game undefeated 10-0, facing the also-undefeated south division champion Hurricanes of Schuylkill Haven at Harman-Geist Stadium in Hazleton.

Sunday’s game proved to be a defensive battle, with the two squads taking a 6-6 tie into halftime.

In the second half, Ashland immediately capitalized on a defensive stop via a long run by #36 to take the lead.

Another key defensive stop set up another Ashland score in the 4th quarter by #5.

Haven’s hopes for a comeback were thwarted by an interception by Ashland’s #36, as the Black Diamonds took the 18-6 victory.

Following the win, the team paraded through Ashland with parents, supporters, and firefighters from Ashland and Ringtown.
