Woman rescued from Locust Gap blaze

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A burned shell is all that remained of a duplex in the 100 block of Railroad Street in Locust Gap on Jan. 31, 2023.

LOCUST GAP, Northumberland County – A woman was rescued from her burning home in this Mount Carmel Township village late Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to the area of 2nd and Railroad Streets in Locust Gap around 10:30pm for a reported house fire.

Crews arrived to find a well-involved duplex at 172 Railroad Street, spreading to an adjacent home.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – Flames can be seen in the roof of a home on Railroad Street in Locust Gap as firefighters battle the blaze.

A resident in the duplex was rescued from the home by a neighbor, as was her dog.

Fire command quickly struck a second alarm, bringing crews from across Northumberland and Schuylkill counties to the scene.

While crews made quick work of the fire in the adjacent home, firefighters could not save the duplex, which was a total loss.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – A pair of Mount Carmel Township firefighters battle a blaze Tuesday night in Locust Gap.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within two hours.

No injuries were reported.

Responding were firefighters from Locust Gap, Atlas, Natalie, Mount Carmel, Shamokin, Ralpho Township, Kulpmont, Englewood, Ashland, among others.

Mount Carmel Township Fire Police closed Route 54 at Route 901 during the firefight.
