SHENANDOAH – A portion of West Oak Street from Chestnut to West Streets on Shenandoah’s south side is closed this afternoon and will remain closed until later tonight after a water main ruptured.

Authorities were notified of the water main break just after 4:00pm, in which water was escaping from beneath the roadway like a small geyser, sending water rushing down West Oak onto Chestnut, New York, and Gilbert Streets, along with loose stone.

Crews from the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah arrived at the scene with a backhoe and, as of 8:00pm, were working to repair the water main.

Municipal Authority crews at the scene said customers in the 200 and 300 blocks of West Oak Street are without water service while crews repair the break.

They estimated the repairs would be completed by 11:00pm this evening.
