SHENANDOAH – As the Shenandoah Fire Department and other firefighters from across the area were gearing up for the Polish American Fire Company’s block party, the department was dispatched to a house fire on South Main Street.

The dispatch came just before 6:30pm for the fire at 214 South Main Street. Within seconds, the PAFCO’s Engine-Tanker 64-30 responded to the fire, quickly followed by the remainder of the borough’s five companies.

Firefighters arrived to find flames on the porch of the unoccupied residence, rising along the front wall beneath the window.

The flames were quickly extinguished with water can and, as a precaution, crews checked the wall and porch roof in case flames spread there.

According to Shenandoah Fire Chief Russ Schumack, the fire was contained to the porch.

The Shenandoah Fire Department was clear of the scene within about 20 minutes, in time for the fire truck parade at 7:30pm.

Assisting Shenandoah Fire were Shenandoah Ambulance, Frackville Ambulance, and Shenandoah Police.
