Ringtown man among dead at Capitol

WASHINGTON, District of Columbia – A Ringtown man was among the four people who died at Wednesday’s riot at the United States Capitol Building, DC Metro Police announced today.

Chief Robert J. Contee III provided an update on the situation along with Mayor Muriel Bowser.

He identified Benjamin Phillips, 50, of Ringtown as one of three people who suffered medical emergencies and died. Another woman was shot and killed by Capitol Police inside the Capitol building.

No further details regarding Phillips’ death were provided.

Throughout the afternoon yesterday, hundreds of people held the Capitol building under siege, breaking through police barricades and entering the building. The siege led to the suspension of debate regarding the certification of electoral college votes.
