PSP release name of one victim, confirm cause of death was homicide, continue drip-feed of information

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A vehicle drives towards New Philadelphia along Ferndale Road on Oct. 10, 2023.

NEW PHILADELPHIA – This small Schuylkill Valley community remains largely in the dark as State Police investigate the homicide of two teens.

State Police confirmed Thursday the identity of one of the two teens as Hunter Mock, 18, of New Philadelphia, but declined to name the other, only saying it was a 16-year-old male from New Philadelphia.

The 16-year-old was confirmed to be Angelito Caraballo by the Pottsville Area School District.

They were found dead along Ferndale Road in the borough around 3:25am Tuesday morning and were pronounced dead at 6am by the county coroner’s office.

An autopsy, troopers said, was performed this morning in Dauphin County and the cause and manner of death for both were ruled homicide.

State Police have been mum on any further details to this point, leading to rampant speculation on social media.

That included the posting of what appeared to be a leaked internal State Police document indicating they had a suspect and referring to the case as a double homicide a full day before troopers said the incident was anything more than a death investigation.
