Police Log, 2/8/2024
NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies in our region.
Aggravated Assault
SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah woman is facing aggravated assault charges after borough police say she threatened an officer with a baseball bat.
Kimberly Callahan, 63, of 32 South Emerick Street, is facing a felony aggravated assault charge along with simple assault, resisting arrest, and terroristic threats charges.
Borough Police said in court documents they were called to her home Tuesday around 4pm for a welfare check by her husband.
Officers found the home ransacked and Callahan in an upstairs bedroom banging on the door. Before police entered the bedroom, she told the officer “that people were shooting” and if the officer entered, “she and the others inside would shoot” him.
Callahan was the only person in the room and, when the officer entered, she grabbed and raised a baseball bat, as if to strike the officer, according to the court paperwork.
The officer drew and aimed a stun gun at her and Callahan set the bat down and sat down on the bed and was taken into custody.
Police spoke to the calling husband about taking her to the hospital and filing charges, and the husband said she would not go to the hospital to file a 302 petition if charges were filed.
Charges were filed anyways, with assault charges justified by placing the officer in fear of imminent serious bodily injury. She did not strike the officer, according to court paperwork.
Callahan was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 15.
Theft
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City man is facing charges after borough police there say he flushed his girlfriend’s prescription medicine down the toilet.
Eugene Raisner, 38, of 731 East Mahanoy Street, is accused of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief for the incident on Jan. 27.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s office, Mahanoy City Police were called to 731 East Mahanoy for a reported domestic disturbance.
Raisner’s girlfriend reported that he flushed her prescription medicine down the toilet.
She was prescribed Trazodone and dumped 27 pills down the toilet, and she presented the prescription to police.
Raisner, the complaint said, told police he flushed them because “he believed [his girlfriend] to be abusing them.”
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 22.
Theft
SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man is facing theft charges, accused of swiping his estranged wife’s medicinal marijuana.
Roberto Cruz, 30, of 444 West Coal Street, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Shenandoah Police said they were called to 444 West Coal Street around 1:45am on Jan. 27 for a reported theft.
They were told by Cruz’s estranged wife that he sometimes legally resides at her home and came home “heavily intoxicated,” nearly started a fight with their teen daughter, and was asked to leave.
He did, taking multiple containers of medicinal marijuana valued at $205. Those containers belonged to his wife, who has a medical marijuana card and legally purchased them at a dispensary in Pottsville.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 22.
Assault
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City woman is facing assault charges after police say she struck her dad after he told her that her boyfriend wasn’t allowed at the family abode.
Ashley Yakimovich, 23, of 1311 East Pine Street, is accused of simple assault and harassment for the incident on Jan. 27.
Mahanoy City Police said they were called to 1311 East Pine around 8pm for a reported assault.
Yakimovich’s father reported that she came home with her boyfriend and brought him into the residence. The father said the boyfriend was not allowed, and said she became hostile.
Yakimovich then struck her father twice in the face with a closed fist, causing swelling and a small cut to his eye.
The couple then left the house.
Yakimovich is free on $25,000 unsecured bail and a preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 22.
Vehicle Accident
KEHLER – A teen was injured in a crash near this Eldred Township village at midday Monday.
State Police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash happened around 11:30am at Vista Road and Creek Road.
Troopers said a 17-year-old Klingerstown boy was headed north on Vista Road in a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder.
They said he was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control of the car, and struck a parked box truck.
The boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Hegins Ambulance.
The vehicle suffered disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Oakland Automotive.
Vehicle Accident
CRESSONA – A Frackville woman will be cited after a crash in North Manheim Township near here.
State Police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash happened around 7:30pm on Jan. 31 at Route 61 and Route 443.
Troopers said Kylie Marier, 28, of Frackville, was headed north on Route 61 in a 2013 Toyota Tacoma as Deborah Chitwood, 65, of Orwigsburg, was headed east on Route 443 in a 2009 Nissan Altima.
Marier, troopers said, ran the red light at a high rate of speed and struck Chitwood’s vehicle.
Marier and her 4-year-old passenger were not injured. Chitwood suffered a minor injury but was not transported, and her passenger, 86-year-old Bernice Sockwell, was not injured. Everyone was wearing their seatbelt and the child was in a booster seat.
Both vehicles were disabled and towed from the scene by Northern Keystone Towing and Hammers Towing.
Criminal Mischief
McADOO – State Police at Frackville are investigating an act of criminal mischief in Kline Township just outside McAdoo.
Troopers said someone busted the windows on two excavators at a property on North Kennedy Drive Friday morning.
The excavators were made by John Deere and Komatsu, and the window damage totaled $3,000.
In the media release, troopers blacked out the exact location and the company impacted.

Vehicle Accident
HADDOCK – State troopers are investigating a crash on the I-81 connector in Kline Township where someone apparently rolled an Acura and fled the scene.
State Police at Frackville said it happened on the ramp to I-81 on Saturday where a 2011 Acura MDX left the road, rolled, landed on all four wheels, and sustained heavy damage.
No operator was at the scene and troopers said it is not known if anyone was hurt since the driver fled.
Shoplifting
HOMETOWN – State Police at Frackville are investigating a shoplifting incident at the Walmart near this Rush Township village.
Troopers said the incident happened around 2:30pm on Jan. 27.
A White Hispanic female was seen under-ringing items at a self-checkout, totaling $316.03, and fled the scene when told to wait for asset protection.
She made off with toys, clothing, conditioner, and more.
