NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies in our region.

Vehicle Accident

ALTAMONT – A Lost Creek man will be cited for a crash over the weekend near this West Mahanoy Township village, State Police said.

Troopers said the crash happened around 6am Sunday on East Oak Street near Morea Road.

Victor Mearini Jr., 46, of Lost Creek, was headed west on East Oak Street in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a stone wall on the north side of the road.

Troopers said no injuries were reported, though Mearini was not wearing a seatbelt.

The vehicle was towed by Northern Keystone Towing.

Mearini, troopers said, will be cited.

Theft

GIRARDVILLE – A 21-year-old from Girardville is out $3,000 via a Facebook Messenger scam, troopers said.

State Police at Frackville said they received the report around 10am on Jan. 3.

An unknown actor asked the 21-year-old man for money via money transfer apps and, after giving $3,000, he discovered it was a scam.

Anyone with information on the incident should call State Police at Frackville at 570-874-5300 and reference incident number PA-2024-11709.

Vehicle Accident

FRACKVILLE – A 19-year-old from Shenandoah was uninjured when state troopers say he struck a boulder on Route 61.

The incident happened around 6pm on Jan. 9 south of Mall Road.

Troopers said Isaiah Stewart, 19, of Shenandoah, was headed north on Route 61 in a 2018 Nissan Altima when he saw the boulder.

With adverse weather conditions and low lighting, he was unable to avoid hitting the boulder and it became lodged under the undercarriage.

He was not injured, but his vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

BLYTHE TOWNSHIP – A Shenandoah woman escaped injury in a crash on the Burma Road south of Mahanoy City.

The crash happened around 10:30am on Jan. 9.

Troopers said Charolyn Vicioso Abreu, 24, of Shenandoah, was headed south on Burma Road in a 2022 Toyota Rav-4.

They said she was driving too fast for slush-covered road conditions at the time and lost control of the car, striking a utility pole.

Live wires from the pole were across the roadway, leading to its closure for four hours.

RYAN TOWNSHIP – A Mahanoy City man will be cited for his role in a crash on I-81, State Police at Frackville said.

The crash happened around 7:30pm Jan. 9 on I-81 South just north of the Frackville exit.

Manuel Caraballo, 19, of Mahanoy City, was headed south in a 2004 Honda HRV, passing a 2019 Ford F-150, when he began to hydroplane into the right lane.

Matthew Madden, 35, of Lake Ariel was driving the Ford F-150 and swerved to avoid a collision.

Troopers said Caraballo then struck the guide rail, bouncing off into Madden’s pickup, causing it to spin and strike the guiderail.

Both vehicles were towed and neither driver, nor Madden’s two passengers, were injured.

Vehicle Accident

BARRY TOWNSHIP – A Hegins man escaped injury and will be cited after a one-vehicle crash on Deep Creek Road at Route 901.

The crash happened around 10am Jan. 7, troopers said.

Roger Deeter, 49, of Hegins, was headed east on a snow-covered roadway and lost control of his 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.

The pickup travelled up an embankment and rolled over.

The vehicle was disabled and towed, and Deeter was uninjured, but troopers said he will be cited.
