MOREA – U.S. Senator Bob Casey stopped by the Schuylkill County Training Academy Tuesday along with other local officials to highlight $2 Million in federal funding to build a new emergency operations center there.

The new operations center received West Mahanoy Township planner approval in December.

“The I-81 pileup of 2022 showed how critical it is for our safety and well-being that our first responders have the resources they need to protect their communities,” Casey said. “I worked with Schuylkill County to secure this funding and it’s going to help keep communities safe. This project is a perfect example of taxpayer dollars going back to Pennsylvania for the benefit of all.”

Casey joined Schuylkill County Commissioners Larry Padora, Gary Hess, and Barron “Boots” Hetherington, as well as Frank Zangari, president of the Schuylkill County Fire Chiefs Association and John Blickley, director of the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency for press conference.

The new center will house EMA offices, an emergency operations center, classroom space, and more.
