YATESVILLE – One man is dead after a large piece of mining equipment rolled over on the property of Schuylkill Energy Resources Monday morning.

The incident happened around 7:45am in Mahanoy Township, near the village of Yatesville east of Shenandoah.

David Moyer, 63, was killed when the large dump truck he was operating rolled over. The trucks, which tower over passenger vehicles, are commonly referred to as Euclids, for the Euclid Company which popularized them, though that company no longer exists.

The incident happened well away from Yatesville Road and the power plant.

Shenandoah firefighters were first called to the scene around 7:45am, and shortly after, the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office was summoned.

Mahanoy Township Police said the investigation is being handled by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Bureau of Mining.
