Man ejected from crash after brief police chase near Hazleton

HUMBOLDT – A 23-year-old man is in a Lehigh County hospital after State Police say he fled a traffic stop and wrecked on I-81 here early Friday morning.

Troopers said they tried to stop the man, who they did not identify, at Routes 924 and 93 in Hazleton for a traffic violation.

The man fled in a vehicle, which they also did not identify, south on Route 924, the CANDO Expressway.

Troopers lost sight of the vehicle as it merged onto Interstate 81 North and troopers began to search the area.

The vehicle was located, disabled, on I-81 South and the driver was found a distance away, having been ejected from the car.

Troopers rendered medical aid until EMS arrived.

The man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township, Lehigh County for treatment.

Further details were not made available “as to not jeopardized the investigation.”
