Kitchen fire kills bird in Coaldale

COALDALE – At least one pet — a bird — was killed when a kitchen fire broke out here Friday afternoon.

Coaldale fire crews were called to a duplex at 110 Greenwood Street around 2:00pm for a reported fire.

Police officers arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the home.

A second alarm was struck, bringing crews from Tamaqua, Summit Hill, Lansford, West Penn, Ryan Township, Tuscarora, and more to the scene.

The fire was brought under control within about 45 minutes.

Fire officials at the scene said no one was hurt, and the fire was contained to the home at 110.

They added that a bird was killed, and crews were looking for other unaccounted for pets.

The residents at 110 will be displaced, they said. The residents in the adjoining 112 home will be able to stay.

Also assisting at the scene was Lehighton Ambulance and Coaldale Police.
