Historical Society to unveil room dedicated to hometown author, screenwriter

SHENANDOAH – The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society is set to unveil a room dedicated to an author and screenwriter from town.

The Darryl Ponicsan Room will recognize the Andoshen author who had also been screenwriter for The Last Detail, starring Jack Nicholson and its sequel Last Flag Flying with Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne.

Ponicsan, the society says, “still embraces a devoted love for his hometown of Shenandoah.”

“The celebrated author and screenwriter has generously donated a significant amount of his personal movie memorabilia, scripts, awards, and photographs to our Society for preservation and display,” the society said in a release. “Our artistic director Peter Cieslukowski and Hollywood contact Anne Chaikowsky-Skirmantas have transformed a roomy, unused office into an impressive tribute space to this renowned home-grown talent.”

The room’s decor is set as a movie theater and includes movie posters and books sent by Ponicsan.

The society will have a public open house on Sunday, August 27 from 1pm to 3pm at the historical society on South Main Street.
