High winds down trees, knock out power around region

SHENANDOAH – Friday’s high winds have been causing issues throughout the region.

The National Weather Service at State College issued a high wind warning from 2pm to 2am Friday for Schuylkill County in anticipation of winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.

Throughout the day, fire crews have been kept busy with tree down calls, while PPL Electric Utilities has dealt with outages across its entire coverage area.

Within the Sentinel coverage area, no major outages have been reported as of 5:30pm, with minor outages being reported in Zion Grove (17 customers), Pattersonville (1 customer), Lavelle (1 customer), Fountain Springs (31 customers), and Barnesville (45).

Firefighters in Shenandoah, Hometown, Fountain Springs, and Englewood, among others have responded to trees down as well.

Shenandoah firefighters were called to Coal and West Streets around 4:30pm for a tree down.

There, a small tree had fallen partially into the roadway, striking the stop sign at the intersection.
