Free rides on STS, Hazleton buses Wednesday

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE - A Schuylkill Transportation System bus on the Mahanoy City-Shenandoah route in Mahanoy Township.

SHENANDOAH – If you need to go anywhere Wednesday and there’s a bus that runs there, that ride will be free if it’s on the Schuylkill Transportation System (STS) or Hazleton Public Transit system Wednesday.

Both transit systems are participating in the statewide Rider Appreciation Days initiative, spearheaded by the Pennsylvania Public Transit Association.

Rides on fixed route buses in Schuylkill County and the Hazleton Area will be free as part of the initiative, which is “a show of appreciation for continued ridership.”

STS operates an hourly route between Shenandoah and Pottsville between 7am and 6pm, along with three runs between Shenandoah and Ashland and five runs between Shenandoah and Mahanoy City daily.

Three STS buses per day run between Pottsville and McAdoo, two of which connect with the Hazleton Public Transit system, which runs an hourly route between there and Hazleton’s Church Street Station.

There is no direct bus connection between Shenandoah and Hazleton or Tamaqua.

STS is also offering 50% off their 30-day Smart Card on Wednesday.

You can view STS bus schedules here and Hazleton bus schedules here.
