Four-hour firefight handles brush fire in Butler Twp.

BUTLER TWP. – Girardville firefighters, aided by forestry crews from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, handled a brush fire near the borough Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out just before noon, when firefighters were called to the area of 1 Powder Mill Road in Butler Township, between the Flicker Hill section and Mahanoy Plane.

The fire began alongside Powder Mill Road and spread up the side of a hill, firefighters told the Sentinel Monday.

Firefighters from Girardville’s Rangers and Girard Fire Companies and DCNR battled the blaze for about four hours before bringing it under control.

Girardville Fire Police and the American Hose Co. #2 of Mahanoy Plane assisted with traffic control at the scene.
