Four displaced in fourth Shenandoah fire in March

SHENANDOAH – Four people and their multiple pets are displaced after a fire on West Coal Street at midday Monday.

Firefighters were called to the 400 block of West Coal Street around 11:30am for a reported house fire.

Smoke could be seen from several blocks away.

When Shenandoah firefighters arrived, the residents of a home at 417 West Coal were found battling a fire in the upper floors of their home with buckets of water. Those residents and their five dogs were evacuated from the home when crews arrived.

The fire appeared to spread to a vacant home next door at 419 West Coal and a second alarm was struck for manpower.

Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas declared the fire out by 12:30pm.

Assisting Shenandoah firefighters were crews from Frackville, Mahanoy City, Girardville, Shenandoah Heights, and Ringtown.

Examitas said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
