Mahanoy Area to perform Mamma Mia this weekend
MAHANOY CITY – Mahanoy Area Theater Arts members are saying “here we go again” with their upcoming spring musical Mamma Mia!
The 1999 musical features music based upon the songs of ABBA.
Auditions were held on January 8 for students in grades 7-12 and production began the following week.
Members of stage crew met early Saturday mornings with director Danny Nester and Assistant Director Maggie Kergick to transform the stage into a spectacular Greek Taverna. Practices were held Monday through Thursday at 7pm and on Sundays at 1:00pm.
Many students had to juggle numerous commitments between work and winter sports such as swimming, wrestling, and basketball. Male leads and dancers are also members of the basketball and swim teams. The past three months have been quite busy and exciting for all those involved with this production.
Senior Alivia Economy commands the stage with her presence and voice as the lead role of Donna. Alivia is supported by her “Dynamos.”
The lead role of Sophy is played by senior Tabbatha Ward and her fiancé Sky is played by senior Drew Pollack.
The comical Rosie is portrayed by senior Sydney Seitzinger.
Junior Bree Dobeck completes the trio as Tanya with her exceptional dance numbers.
A talented male cast is composed of senior Louie Frye, junior Ethan Manley, and sophomore Brandon Van Horn who perform the roles of Sam, Harry, and Bill respectively.
The leads are complimented by a full cast who light up the stage under the direction of choreographer Jillian Roberts. The students’ vibrant costuming is arranged and designed by Mrs. Mary Ellen Fore.
Prepared to be entertained with the music of ABBA! Don’t miss your chance to see Mamma Mia! on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1 at 7pm in the Mahanoy Area School District Auditorium.
Tickets are $7.00 in advance (before 03/29/23) and $10.00 at the door on the nights of the performances. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Mr. Nester at the Jr./Sr. High School.
