Shen. Valley awarded grant to buy vans for special education, homeless students
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Valley has been awarded a grant to purchase a pair of school vans for special education and homeless students, U.S. Senator Bob Casey’s office told the Sentinel today.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development grant program awarded SV a $52,400 grant and $23,600 loan to purchase the 2023 Ford Transit low-roof van and 2023 Transit Connect passenger van.
The USDA says demands for specialized transportation such as for special education and homeless students is increasing substantially, and is a requirement of federal law and Individualized Education Plans.
Shenandoah Valley already provides some transportation to fill the need, but often contracts out to other school districts, whose vans are not always available.
