Mahanoy man arrested in Bucks for theft

NEW BRITAIN, Bucks County – A Mahanoy City man was arrested by police in Bucks County earlier this month for charges stemming from an incident in September.

According to the Central Bucks Regional Police, an arrest warrant was issued for John Michael Shala, 44, of Mahanoy City, on Sept. 27.

Police accused Shala of charging purchases to a Lowe’s business account he wasn’t authorized to use.

Surveillance video, police said, showed Shala with items in his cart that matched the items purchased using the business account.

Shala was arrested Dec. 13, according to police.

He is facing five felony counts each of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and access device fraud, along with five misdemeanor counts of forgery.

Shala was committed to Bucks County Prison, unable to post 10% of $15,000 bail.
