POTTSVILLE – Exactly a month short of three years since the Spanish bank announced they were closing their Shenandoah branch and merging it with Pottsville’s, Santander informed customers this week the city’s branch is the next to go.

In a letter dated Dec. 13, Santander told customers it is closing the branch at 120 South Centre Street in the city and merging it with their Schuylkill Haven branch at 24-28 East Main Street.

The merger will occur on March 23 at 4pm.

The letter was signed by Jonathan Leyden, District Executive for the bank’s Mid-Atlantic region.

This comes almost three years after Santander abandoned their branch at Main and Centre Streets in Shenandoah.

Customers were notified of that merger on Jan. 10, 2020. The building remains empty to this day.
