FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – The first game on the new turf field at Spartan Stadium was held Friday night between North Schuylkill and Shamokin, and it certainly was a dominant showing for the Spartans.

The over $1 Million field was completed a few weeks ago and opened for practice, though tonight was the first competitive contest held on the surface.

Throughout the game, North Schuylkill dominated the Indians, scoring early and often.

The first score would come midway through the first quarter, when senior #39 Zach Chowansky ran about 25 yards in for the score. A missed extra point would give the Spartans a 6-0 advantage over Shamokin. Minutes later, senior #6 Jaden Leiby would double the score with another touchdown run, and a missed two-point conversion made it 12-0.

Leiby would connect with Junior #19 Dylan Dietz on a pass play with 2:36 remaining in the first. A successful two-point conversion by #32 Jake Green created a 20-0 advantage after one quarter.

By halftime, North Schuylkill held a 43-0 lead. Another pair of scores in the second half gave NS a 56-0 advantage, and a late run from Shamokin negated the shut-out, as the Indians found themselves on the board with six points.

With the 56-6 victory, North Schuylkill remains undefeated on the year as they travel to Wyomissing next week.
