Pottsville duplex fire injures one

POTTSVILLE – A house fire in this city sent one to a Lehigh County hospital via air medical Tuesday afternoon.

Fire broke out around 1:17pm in a duplex at 711-713 West Market Street in Pottsville.

Responding fire crews could see a column of smoke from PA Route 61 shortly after dispatch.

Firefighters from the city Bureau of Fire, as well as Schuylkill Haven, responded to the scene, receiving reports of possible entrapment in the home.

One person was located on the front porch of one of the residences, though no one was found inside.

Pottsville Fire Chief Jim Misstishin told the Sentinel that one person from 711 West Market Street was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital via air medical for treatment of injuries. He had no further information on the person or their condition.

Misstishin added that the fire was brought under control by 2:30pm.

Firefighters from the city, Schuylkill Haven, Minersville, and Tamaqua responded to the scene.

Traffic was diverted at Centre Street as a result of the fire and construction at the east end of Garfield Square.
