HS FOOTBALL: Vikes edge Bears on homecoming night, 28-20
MAHANOY CITY – The Golden Bears dropped their second game of the season in a close game against Williams Valley Friday night.
The game began as a shootout, as the two squads exchanged blows.
Williams Valley struck first, as QB Bryce Herb found FB Logan Williard for a 36-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Early in the second, Mahanoy would answer, with a QB Ben Terry run for 21-yards. A failed point-after would give the Vikings a 1-point advantage, 7-6.
Once again, a Herb pass would find paydirt, this time in the hands of Jesse Engle, giving the Vikings a 14-6 advantage.
A Terry pass to Ben Manley would close the gap by halftime, though a failed two-point conversion kept the Vikings up by two.
Williams Valley would never relinquish the lead as the shootout continued into the second half.
A 50-yard pick-six by Caden Deibert extended the Vikings lead early in the third.
Terry would find paydirt on the ground again, from 32 yards out. A successful two-point conversion would close the gap once again.
An Engle run would put the Vikings ahead by 8, creating the final score of 28-20.
Williams Valley now stands at 3-1, while Mahanoy is at 2-2.
Mahanoy Area travels to Valley View next week to face the Bulldogs of Tri-Valley (1-0).
