SHENANDOAH – The common saying leading into Friday’s game between Shenandoah Valley and Panther Valley was along the lines of “somebody’s 0 has got to go,” and that 0 was Panther Valley’s in a dominant showing.
Before a packed crowd for SV’s homecoming, the Panthers scored first earlier in the first quarter, as senior #17 Shawn Hoben caught a pass in the endzone.
A run by senior #36 Eric Moyer gave the Panthers a 14-0 lead entering halftime, and another Moyer run with 2:12 remaining in the third put the Panthers up 21-0.
Another third quarter score would give the Panthers a 29-0 lead entering the fourth.
Shenandoah Valley, through quarterback #14 Junebug Karvois, found their way onto the scoreboard, as Karvois ran into the endzone, leading to a 29-6 score with 15 seconds remaining in the game.
The Panthers, though, still weren’t done. As time expired, #28 Tremaine Ervine ran back the kickoff, leading to the 35-6 final score.
The victory is Panther Valley’s first on the year, giving them a 1-5 record, while Shenandoah Valley falls to 0-6. Next week, Shenandoah Valley faces Schuylkill Haven at home, while Panther Valley faces Marian at home.
Looking at the PIAA District XI Class 1A playoff picture, Shenandoah Valley remains in the playoff hunt, as Marian Catholic stands winless as well, and only one 1A team has a winning record this year thus far: undefeated Williams Valley. Four teams of the five District XI Class 1A teams qualify for playoffs.
