ASHLAND – The Diocese of Allentown announced new clergy assignments this weekend and two local churches will have a new pastor next month.
Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis has been assigned as Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Ashland and St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Frackville. He was previously Pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Lehighton.
The assignment is effective June 16.
Rev. Guency Isaac, parochial administrator for both churches is being reassigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sinking Spring, Berks County.
The moves were announced by Bishop Alfred Schlert who, the Diocese says, worked with the Priest Personnel Board on the new assignments.
They are designed to meet the needs of the faithful in the Diocese’s 78 parishes, as well as fulfilling pastoral needs at college campuses, at hospitals, at diocesan high schools, and at prisons and nursing homes.
Priests can be reassigned for a number of reasons, including openings due to retirements, professional development of priests, requests from clergy members, and the need for a specific skill or talent that is a good match for a certain ministry.
