HAZLETON – Three scholastic musicians represented our area in the Pennsylvania Music Educators (PMEA) District 9 Chorus Festival last week.

The festival took place at Valley View High School near Archbald Jan. 7 through 9.

It brought together some of the most talented student vocalists across northeastern Pennsylvania and was conducted by guest conductor Mr. John Vaida.

Representing Hazleton Area School District were: Tatiana Sharonoff, Soprano I; Tiffany Taveras-Rosario, Soprano I; and Carlos Otero Jr., Bass II. Each student earned selection through a highly competitive audition process and worked diligently to achieve this honor.

“These students exemplify the talent, commitment, and work ethic we strive to cultivate in the Hazleton Area School District,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Uplinger.  “Their selection to the PMEA District 9 Chorus Festival is a testament to their dedication to the arts and to the strength of our music education program. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.”

Participation in the PMEA District 9 Chorus Festival is a significant achievement and reflects countless hours of preparation and rehearsal, the district says.

PMEA District 9 covers Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, Susquehanna, and Wayne counties.

Schuylkill County is part of District 10 and Northumberland and Columbia counties are in District 8.
