NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies in our region.
Burglary
SHENANDOAH – A woman is in Schuylkill County Prison, accused of breaking into an east end home.
Brenda Bloss, 51, was charged Monday by Shenandoah Police with felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Patrolman Mark Hysock, police were called to a home at 210 East Lloyd Street just before 4pm for a report of a woman inside the home who did not belong.
Police arrived to find Bloss standing on the front porch of the residence. The front door had been smashed and the inside glass of the door had scuff marks on it but had not yet broken.
Bloss had a brick among her belongings laying on the porch as she tried to get into the home.
The door, police estimated, cost $500.
Bloss was arraigned and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $10,000 bail.
Theft
SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man is facing misdemeanor theft and receiving stolen property charges, accused of swiping a doorbell camera that caught him in the act.
Robert Seigel, of South Bower Street, was charged Monday by Shenandoah Police Patrolman Mark Hysock.
According to the criminal complaint, police received a theft report around 11am Saturday in the 100 block of South Bower Street.
Around 8:45am that morning, a man came onto the victim’s front porch and swiped a Ring doorbell camera before leaving.
The victim reviewed the camera footage that showed the incident and captured a clear picture of the suspect’s face. Later, the victim saw the man, later identified as Seigel, in the neighborhood and confronted him.
Seigel asked the victim not to call the police. He then pulled the camera from his pocket and returned it to the victim.
Criminal Mischief
NEW PHILADELPHIA – State Police at Frackville are investigating an act of criminal mischief here.
Troopers said they were called to a home on Water Street in the borough around 1pm Friday.
There, someone slashed the driver’s side rear tire of a 1994 Ford.
Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at Frackville at 570-874-5300.
Liquor Law Violations
HAZLETON – Two Hazleton establishments were cited for liquor law violations.
The citations were filed by the State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement Wilkes-Barre office.
Kayro Lounge and Restaurant, 47 East Diamond Avenue, was cited for allowing music or other entertainment to be heard off-property on Dec. 26 and allowing patrons to possess or remove beverages from the premises after 2:30am.
Crystal Barbeque, 44 East Broad Street, is accused of failing to require patrons to vacate the bar half an hour after service ended, allowing patrons to remove alcoholic beverages from the premises after 2:30 a.m., and selling alcoholic beverages between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., all on Dec. 25.
The citations will be brought before an Administrative Law Judge who can impose a fine, suspend or revoke a license, or require training.
Vehicle Accident
BRANDONVILLE – A man from suburban Pittsburgh will be cited for a single-vehicle crash here Thursday.
According to State Police at Frackville, the crash happened on Route 924 on the Shenandoah Mountain just south of Brandonville around 11:45am.
Alexand Almonte Sanchez, 22, of Homestead, was headed north on Route 924 in a 2010 Ford E350.
Troopers said he lost control of the vehicle, travelled across the southbound lane and onto the shoulder before crossing back over and striking an embankment.
Troopers said he had a minor wrist injury but refused treatment from Shenandoah Ambulance.
The van was towed by Steve’s Towing. Firefighters from Sheppton-Oneida and Mahanoy City West End responded.
Troopers said he will be cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
Vehicle Accident
TUSCARORA – A Reading woman was taken to a Coaldale hospital and will be cited after a crash near this Schuylkill Township community Wednesday.
According to State Police at Frackville, the two-vehicle crash happened around 11:40am Wednesday on U.S. 209 near Catawissa Street.
Troopers said Melinda Garay Davila, 49, of Reading, was approaching Route 209 on Catawissa Street from Tuscarora in a 2007 Ford Mustang.
She failed to stop for the stop sign, entering the path of Dyllyn Trexler, 33, of Barnesville and his 2017 Ford F550 with a snowplow blade.
The snowplow blade struck and spun the Mustang.
Garay Davila suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Coaldale hospital for treatment. Trexler was not injured and his vehicle sustained minor damage.
The Mustang was towed from the scene.
Garay Davila will be cited for the stop sign violation and driving without a license.
Harassment
CUMBOLA – A Cumbola man was cited for harassment and trespassing after state troopers say he cornered another man in his driveway, forcing him to use pepper spray to defend himself.
According to State Police at Frackville, the incident happened around 2:22pm Jan. 29 at a home on Wood Street in Blythe Township.
Troopers said Richard Viars, 52, of Cumbola, cornered a man in his driveway and “physically contacted” the victim in an attempt to harass him. The victim used pepper spray to defend himself, troopers said.
Viars was cited for trespassing and harassment.
Vehicle Accident
UNION TOWNSHIP – A Wilburton man was taken to a Montour County hospital after police say he struck an embankment, tree, utility pole, and rolled his car near the Old White Church here.
The crash happened around 8:35am Sunday on Brandonville Road near Farmers Road in Union Township, east of Ringtown.
State Police at Frackville said Matthew Slotterback, 18, of Wilburton, was headed west on Brandonville Road in a 2009 Toyota Camry when he left the road, striking an embankment, tree, and pole.
The Camry then rolled and came to a rest on its roof across both lanes of travel.
Slotterback was taken to Geisinger Medical Center by Shenandoah Ambulance. Firefighters from Ringtown Valley assisted.
Troopers said Slotterback will be cited.
