PSP: Woman steals car, offers ride to victim’s brother when confronted
BUCK MOUNTAIN – A woman is in Schuylkill County Prison on felony theft charges after State Police say she stole someone’s vehicle in this Mahanoy Township village and offered a ride to the victim’s brother.
Mercedes Alexander, 28, was arraigned on Jan. 6 on theft and DUI charges.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Master Trooper Thomas Powell of the State Police at Frackville, troopers were called to 163 Buck Mountain Road around 7am.
There, a woman had been detained in front of a vehicle parked in the middle of Buck Mountain Road.
Troopers took the woman, later identified as Alexander, into custody and said she had difficulty spelling her name and giving her date of birth. She also claimed she saw her daughter inside the police car.
The victim told police that she pulled her vehicle out of her garage and left it idle to warm up while she began to get ready for work.
She went to her brother’s home next door and heard a horn honking and lights shining towards her. Her vehicle then began driving west on Buck Mountain Road, towards her brother who had left his home and went to the street.
The vehicle stopped and Alexander was behind the wheel. The brother told troopers that Alexander asked him if he needed a ride. She then exited the car, saying she needed to relieve herself, and she was then detained.
She is in Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10% of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 30 in Shenandoah.
