SHENANDOAH – A collapsing eyesore in the heart of town is coming down, borough council said at the November regular meeting.

The former Gerri’s Flowers building at 26 South Main Street, owned by a New York City-based firm, collapsed last December after years of abandonment.

Borough Manager Tony Sajone credited former code enforcement officer Mark Pronio for his work on trying to get the property owner to either rehab or demolish the property.

Sajone said demolition has started and began in the rear of the property.

A sign for a demolition firm was present at the property Tuesday.

The building is one of two eyesores meeting the wrecking ball in town.

The former Shenandoah Abbatoir complex is scheduled for demolition soon as well.

Current Code Enforcement Officer Jim Flail said he’s handled 231 complaints and has conducted 104 inspections.
