Students carry on Shenandoah Valley window painting tradition

SHENANDOAH – A longtime Shenandoah tradition dating back to at least the 1960s continued this week.

High schoolers were out-and-about downtown Wednesday, adding color to many of the storefronts.

The Shenandoah Valley High School students were participating in the annual Halloween Window Painting project, now undertaken by the art club at the school.

The Sentinel stopped by North Main Street where students were painting Francesco’s, the former Woolworth’s storefront, and the Go 2 Laundromat.

The tradition dates back at least to 1964, when the former Shenandoah Merchants Association sponsored it as a contest.
