New section of Gilberton bridge opens; workers cut SECV lines for much of N. Schuylkill

GILBERTON – A day after what should’ve been a joyous one for northern Schuylkill residents, roughly half the region is without internet access because workers at the bridge cut fiber lines for Service Electric Cablevision.
Just after 7:00pm Thursday afternoon, Service Electric Cablevision, which serves most of the northern Schuylkill area, announced on their Facebook page customers in Gilberton, Ashland, Frackville, Girardville, and surrounding areas were without internet, TV, and phone services because a construction company at the bridge struck fiber lines.
Residents on the west end of Shenandoah and the Fountain Springs section of Butler Township reported to the Sentinel their SECV service was uninterrupted.
“Our technicians are working all night to restore services to the impacted areas; however, due to the severity of the fiber cut, services may not be restored until tomorrow morning (2/21),” SECV wrote on Facebook. “We know it can be inconvenient, for that we apologize and will provide additional updates as they become available.”
The newly constructed southbound side of the Gilberton overpass opened to traffic yesterday.
The bridge brings PA Route 924, the Gold Star Highway, over the borough of Gilberton, Main Street, and Reading and Northern railroad tracks.
