Shenandoah Valley approves paving project, hires ESL teacher

SHENANDOAH – At a special meeting Wednesday, the Shenandoah Valley School District approved a paving project on campus and approved the hiring of an ESL teacher on the high school side.

Superintendent Brian Waite said paving will be done in the bus circle at the high school, as well as on Stadium Road, which is owned by the district, and in the Veterans Memorial Stadium parking lot.

The paving project will be performed by Ronnie Folk Paving at a cost of $54,015.

In other business, the district hired Kathleen O’Donnell as a high school ESL teacher at a Masters Step 13 salary — $56,370 — pending receipt of clearances.

The district also approved:

  • A letter of resignation from Diann Belsak, elementary ESL teacher, held for 60 days or until a replacement is hired, whichever is first;
  • A letter of resignation from Jennifer Barnish, high school math teacher, held for 60 days or until a replacement is hired, whichever is first;
  • A second reading of two school policies regarding school police officers;
  • School Nurse Lucy Salamak to attend “Voices of School Health” conference;
  • The following support staff appointments
    • Samantha Skubel as a full-time paraprofessional;
    • Nicole DeGregor as a snack person in the cafeteria for 5.5 hours daily;
    • Linda Damiter as a cafeteria aide for 3 hours daily;
  • The sale of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup with plow and lift gate to Gary Kaszowski for $3,777.77;
  • A letter of resignation from Laurence Wagner, maintenance and bus driver, effective August 18, and posting and advertising the position.
