Historical Society talk draws dozens

SHENANDOAH – This month’s talk at the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society packed the house Tuesday night.

The talk by Dr. Peter Skirmantas focused on the role of anthracite coal miners in the Civil War.

the 48th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Schuylkill Regiment, which he says was part of “what is arguably the most spectacular single event of the Civil War,” the detonation of a confederate fort near Petersburg, Virginia, in 1864.
