Police: Man fired shots at men, hit occupied house
HAZLETON, Luzerne County – A man is facing charges for firing shots at three other men and striking an occupied house in the city Wednesday morning.
Police were called around 8am to Diamond Avenue for a report of an assault and shots fire.
City Police said the defendant, Juan Abreu, and three men had been drinking Tuesday night at Biagio’s. The quartet eventually found themselves in the area of Abreu’s home and an altercation ensued.
Abreu, police said, pointed a handgun at the men and was promptly struck in the face. Abreu then fired ten shots, two of which struck a home on the north side of Diamond Avenue, where a mother and her children were.
Abreu was charged with felony aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, propulsion of missles into a roadway, and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.
He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Joseph Zola and committed to Luzerne County Prison, unable to post $250,000 bail.
