Speed Limit now 45mph on Sheppton Mountain
SHEPPTON – After a series of crashes on Route 924 on the Sheppton Mountain, the speed limit has now been reduced from 55 to 45mph.
Signs designated a 45mph zone from the village to the bottom of the mountain on both sides.
East Union Township officials said the speed limit change came after several crashes occurred on the stretch of highway between Sheppton and Brandonville, including one which killed a Hazleton man.
Guiderails in the area were also repaired and signage was added warning drivers to slow down for curves on the mountain.
PennDOT said the new speed limit signs replaced old signs and said no speed limit change occurred, though the stretch was signed as a 55mph zone in 2018 and 2008 Google Streetview imagery.
