NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies in our region.
Vehicle Accident
SHUMANS – A Zion Grove man escaped injury after a crash near this Beaver Township village earlier this month.
State Police at Bloomsburg said the crash happened around 5:30am on Jan. 19 on Route 339 near Pump House Lane.
Troopers said Roger Romiski, 21, of Zion Grove, was headed north on Route 339 in a 2008 Suzuki SX4.
Troopers said he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane, struck an embankment, and the vehicle rolled.
Romiski was not injured, but he will be cited for the crash.
Vehicle Accident
KLINES GROVE – A Mount Carmel man escaped injury but will be cited after a crash north of Snydertown earlier this month.
The crash happened around 9pm on Jan. 16 on Mountain View Road near Gravel Run Road in Rush Township, Northumberland County.
State Police at Stonington said Ethan Fanella, 21, of Mount Carmel, was headed east on Mountain View Road in a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.
Troopers said he was headed downhill approaching a left-hand turn and “was traveling too fast for the snow covered roadway conditions” and drove straight off the roadway and into a ten foot ditch containing Gravel Run.
Fanella was not injured, and was not wearing a seatbelt.
The vehicle was disabled and removed from Gravel Run by Sunbury Motors.
Troopers said he will be cited for driving at a safe speed.
Vehicle Accident
DELANO – A Hazle Township woman was taken to a Hazleton hospital after a crash on the interstate near Delano Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 10:30am Jan. 21 on I-81 South at mile marker 133.3. That’s between the Delano exit and the weigh station.
State Police at Frackville said Lori Vargas, 53, of Hazle Township, was headed south on the interstate in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Troopers said that, for unknown reasons, she left the right side of the roadway and the SUV rolled over, coming to a rest in the grass facing north.
Vargas suffered possible injuries, troopers said, and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for evaluation.
The vehicle was disabled and towed from the scene by Act Truck and Trailer.
She will be cited for the crash.
Vehicle Accident
DELANO – A Luzerne County man suffered a minor injury and was cited after a crash in Delano Township Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened on Lofty Road near Water Dam Road around 5pm.
State Police at Frackville said Charles Knight, 71, of Sweet Valley, was headed south on Lofty Road and lost control of his 2021 Ram 2500 in a left-hand corner.
The truck descended 90 feet down into a ditch, becoming airborne and traveling over rocks and down trees alongside the road.
The truck came to a rest when it struck a tree head-on.
Knight said he had a minor injury, but refused EMS transport.
His truck was towed from the scene and troopers said he will be cited.
Vehicle Accident
BLYTHE TOWNSHIP – A Mahanoy City woman escaped injury in a single vehicle crash on the Burma Road Thursday morning.
The crash happened around 9:30am on Burma Road about two miles south of Brockton Mountain Drive.
State Police at Frackville said Renee Deesing, 61, of Mahanoy City, was headed south on the Burma Road in a Kia Sportage when the vehicle left its lane, struck several trees off the right side of the road, and came to a rest on the shoulder of the road.
Deesing was not injured, but troopers said she will be cited.
Her vehicle was towed from the scene by Village Auto, of Mahanoy City.
