FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – Friday’s night’s scoring began with an explosive special teams play from the Bulldogs.

The Northern Lehigh squad, entering the game with a 2-2 record, and held the 3-1 North Schuylkill Spartans to a 4th down, forcing a punt.

North Schuylkill’s Gavin Mentzer dropped back to punt and, as soon as he did, Northern Lehigh’s Bailey Smith was in the backfield.

The senior linebacker blocked the punt and returned it for a touchdown. A missed extra point gave Northern Lehigh a 6-0 advantage.

Though, that was the only time a Bulldog would find paydirt at Spartan Stadium.

With 7:36 left in the first quarter, North Schuylkill QB Caden Mengel found one of his prime targets in Joey Flail for a 45 yard touchdown. A Mentzer extra point made it a go-ahead touchdown and the Spartans wouldn’t look back.
