Firework sparks field fire in E. Union

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The scene of Monday's brush fire near Girard Manor.

GIRARD MANOR – Sheppton-Oneida firefighters made quick work of a field fire near this East Union Township village Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 1209 Pole Road for a reported 50×50 field fire.

Smoke could be seen from as far as Route 924 south of Brandonville three miles away.

Crews from the Sheppton-Oneida Fire Co. arrived to find a fire spreading through the field towards woodlands to the east and south.

Ringtown Valley and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Bureau of Forestry were called to assist as crews were still responding.

Firefighters made quick work of the fire, and DCNR was cancelled. Ringtown’s brush truck cleared shortly after arrival.

No one was hurt, and no structures were damaged.

The fire was sparked by a firework set off by a nearby resident.
